Art and Life

The playful whimsy of light changes the colors and values at its resting point whether it catches the tip of a leaf or the full face of a flower. Light is magical. It eludes capture, even though as an artist, I spend hours looking for light and its pathways which are always complemented by shadows. The fanciful imagination of light imagines space with power and courage and so it is.

In my art I represent the dynamic interplay of light, movement and object. Then, it is my turn. With the mystery of imagination and creative passion, I abstract what I see leaning on solid representation. Hence, I belong to the School of Representational Abstract Expressionism. My favorite artists include, Georgia O’Keefe, Wolf Kahn, Rollin Pickford and many others.

Painting is perfect self expression and a manifestation of the power that has been given to me as a human being to co-create with an all loving God. It is the outpouring of my personal love and respect for nature and people. I see the movement of life and reflect on the sounds and sights presented to me on a daily basis. Whether I paint, draw or write poetry, the universe is full of life and I see it, magnify what I see and present it to you.

To witness and participate in the creative process is a gift and an illumination of the extraordinary love of God. I have learned to respect the originality of each moment and the continuing process of creation. Change is a constant. Notice a shadow and its movement around an object. It is constantly shifting as each moment passes. To sit and reflect on what changes occur in time stirs a spark of adventure in me and a smile that jumps out of nowhere. This playfulness with color, value, design and dynamic movement evolves into another painting or poem.

Creativity is a “way of being” in life that requires that I am aware in the present moment both of details and the larger truth about life. For me, Truth is Beauty. That is my value and my bottom line. It is impossible for me not to live a passionately creative life, so, I enjoy the gifts, sit in gratitude and allow the impulses of interest and imagination to flow freely.
